Volunteering in Children Disability Center In Nepal

Do you dream of making a real difference in the lives of children with disabilities? Are you passionate about caring for special-needs children and want to help them live fuller lives? Would you love to explore the beauty and culture of Nepal while supporting a deeply meaningful cause?

Nepal is a breathtaking country known for its snow-capped mountains, ancient temples, vibrant culture, and warm-hearted people. Yet behind this natural and cultural beauty lies a harsh reality—many children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are ignored, misunderstood, and left without the support they need. Families often lack the resources, awareness, or time to properly care for these children, leading to lifelong isolation and neglect.

Global Crossroad’s Volunteer Work in a Children’s Disability Center in Nepal offers a powerful solution to this problem. In this program, you’ll work hands-on with a local center in Kathmandu that supports about 20 children with disabilities. These children are dropped off daily by their parents and rely on the staff and volunteers for care, therapy, education, and emotional support.

By volunteering in this program, you’ll provide essential help and bring hope and dignity to children who need it most. Whether through therapy, play, education, or just offering a smile and kind word, your presence will have a lasting impact.

If you're compassionate, adaptable, and ready to change lives—including your own—this opportunity is calling your name.

Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts

As a volunteer at the Children’s Disability Center in Kathmandu, you will play a key role in the daily lives of the children. You’ll assist local caregivers with day-to-day care, therapy routines, and educational support. Your duties may include helping with physiotherapy, occupational or speech therapy, academic instruction, storytelling, art and music activities, and teaching basic health and hygiene practices. You may also assist with feeding, playtime, or simply spending quality time with the children.

In addition to supporting the children’s physical and emotional needs, you’ll be helping overburdened local staff and bringing in new ideas, energy, and attention. Your presence will offer the children a sense of connection, confidence, and joy, something many of them rarely experience at home. Whether through therapy or a simple shared smile, your contributions will create a lasting impact on the children’s lives—and your own.

Skills and Qualifications

To join this program, volunteers must be at least 18 years old and willing to work in a culturally respectful and compassionate manner. While no formal training is required, a background in education, special education, psychology, therapy (such as speech, occupational, or physical therapy), or childcare is highly valuable and welcomed.

Above all, volunteers should have patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children with special needs. Being flexible and open-minded will help you adapt to the local routines and challenges. If you bring a creative spirit, a warm heart, and a willingness to learn and contribute, you’ll thrive in this meaningful setting.
