Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts
Your commitment to volunteer work in an orphanage in Nepal offers orphans and street children the support and devotion they deserve. Typically, each orphanage in Nepal has different tasks and program with no fixed schedule for each day. You should be prepared and happy to help at all times with different and fun tasks.
- First Day: On your first day of volunteering monk teaching in Nepal, you will be accompanied by a local coordinator to the monastery and introduced to the people you will be working with. The rest of the day you will get to familiarize yourself with the duties, facilities and the children.
- Weekdays: - You will start working on the project on second day. A typical weekday will look like this:
- 7.00 AM – You will enjoy a delicious healthy breakfast ready to start a fun and exciting day.
- 7.30 AM - 9.00 AM – You will set out to help the kids get ready for school by preparing breakfast and ensuring they have everything they need to get ready for a fun day in school.
- 10.00 AM - 3.00 PM – You will have some free time to visit the local area. You can explore the market, shop, or even tour the temples around.
- 3.30 PM – This will be an opportunity for you to assist with the transfer of kids from school to home.
- 4.00 PM – Back at the orphanage you will help get snacks ready and serve the kids.
- 4.00 AM - 6.30 PM – This is time to spend quality time with children assisting with homework and other activities
- 7.00 PM– Over dinner you will enjoy a delicious local healthy Nepalese dinner, which you will share with the children, it will also be a chance to learn more about Nepal

The volunteer trip to Nepal program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your programs last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses.
Accommodation and Meal
You will be very comfortable while volunteering in Nepal orphanage project. You will either live with a host family, in volunteer house or in the orphanage where the project is located. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and safe featuring modern facilities including western-style toilets, running water and electricity. You will also be provided with three local delicious meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) per day.

Free Time and Weekend Exploration
When you join volunteering orphanage program in Nepal, you will have enough time to visit and explore gorgeous while working in GCR’s volunteering projects. Monday through to Friday, you will work an average of 4-5 hours leaving you plenty of free time during the week to check out local places around you. Additionally, over the weekend you will have 2 days to be able to go on longer trips, you can visit the other cities around Nepal

Arrival and Departure
You have to fly into Tribhuvan International Airport for our orphanage volunteer program in Nepal. Global Crossroad advices you to come to Nepal one day before the start date of the volunteer projects.
You will be welcomed by our local representative at the airport after their arrival in the airport. Afterward, you will be transferred to your respective accommodations. However, Global Crossroad won’t be arranging any airport drop-off service after the completion of volunteer projects but local staff will be able to help you get the best transportation to the airport.
And it is very important to notify the local coordinator about flight delays and missed flights as soon as possible. By doing so, we will be able to arrange a new airport pick-up time.
Tourist visa is a must for anyone planning to join volunteering in orphanage program in Nepal. So, you’ll have to visit the Embassy of Nepal in your home country and apply for a tourist visa before coming to Nepal. Volunteers can stay in Nepal for a total of 150 days in one year.
On arrival tourist visa is also available at the Tribhuvan International Airport. If you are a citizen of countries like the USA, UK, Australia and Canada, you can apply for on arrival visa at the international airport for our volunteer work program in Nepal.
It will cost you US$25 for a 15-day single entry tourist visa and US$100 for a 90-day tourist visa. But you can always extend your visa by paying a visit to the Immigration Department in Kathmandu or Pokhara. You can stay in Nepal for a total of 150 days in one year.
Vaccinations for Malaria, MMR, Rabies, chickenpox, Hepatitis A, Polio, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid, Hepatitis B, and Yellow Fever are necessary for you to work in orphanage Nepal volunteer work programs.
How far is the project from the accommodation? How do I commute daily?
You will either be housed on site at the orphanage or within a 10-20-minute walk of your placement, eliminating the necessity of daily transportation.
How many hours a day do we work while volunteering in orphanage abroad in Nepal?
There are always plenty opportunities around the orphanage for you to work additional hours doing things like cleaning, washing, shopping and cooking. On average, working hours are 4-5 hours a day from Mondayto Friday. You will have two free days over the weekend to tour around the country.
The children that you will care for will most likely become quickly and strongly attached to you. It is important that you remain a positive role model for these children. It is also advised that you do not leave the premises after dusk.
