Volunteers usually work around 5 to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday. While your tasks might change depending on the shelter’s needs or rescue situations, here’s what a typical day might look like:
- 7:00 AM – Start your day with a tasty Indian breakfast and a cup of tea.
- 8:00 AM – Travel to your assigned project at the animal shelter or join the rescue team for their morning rounds.
- 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM – Take part in hands-on animal care. You might be feeding and grooming animals, cleaning their spaces, helping with rescues, or assisting with sterilization and vaccination programs.
- After 3:00 PM – Use your free time to relax or explore the area. Visit local markets, temples, meet local people, or hang out with other volunteers.
- 7:00 PM – Enjoy a hearty dinner and share your day’s experiences with fellow volunteers.
Weekends are usually free for sightseeing or short trips. You can explore nearby places like Delhi, Agra (home of the Taj Mahal), or Jaipur.

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in India application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).
In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to your host family and project. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The India volunteer experience program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.
Accommodation and Meal
Global Crossroad volunteers arranges your accommodation with a trusted local host family in either Delhi or Jaipur, offering you a safe, comfortable, and culturally immersive experience. Accommodations include a shared or private room with basic amenities, and you'll enjoy three daily home-cooked Indian meals. This setup gives you a true taste of Indian life while ensuring you're well taken care of throughout your volunteer journey.

The India animal volunteer program is based in Faridabad, a city located just outside the energetic capital of New Delhi. It offers a quieter, more laid-back environment while still being close to the heart of India’s major attractions. As a volunteer, you'll work with rescued animals in shelters and rehabilitation centers, providing daily care and support to improve their well-being.
In your free time, Faridabad has plenty to offer. You can relax in local parks, stroll through traditional markets, visit nearby temples, or enjoy authentic Indian meals. Animal Volunteer Program India: Arrival and Orientation
Please arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi one day before your animal volunteer program begins. A friendly Global Crossroad representative will be waiting outside the terminal holding a sign with your name. If your flight is delayed or changed, be sure to contact us right away so we can update your pickup and ensure everything goes smoothly.
After meeting our staff, you’ll be taken to your accommodation near the project site, where you’ll have time to rest and settle in.
Later that day, you’ll attend an orientation led by our local coordinator. This session will cover your volunteer duties, the type of care you'll provide to rescued animals, and important information about Indian customs, safety, and local transportation.
After orientation, enjoy a relaxed evening and prepare for your first day at the animal care center. The following morning, you’ll begin your meaningful volunteer experience, working alongside a dedicated team to help animals in need.
