Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts

During your volunteering work in Thailand with school renovation program, your responsibilities will include construction and painting work to construct, rebuild and renovate facilities like schools, daycare centers and playgrounds. Your exact tasks will depend on the needs of the project you’re placed with.

This work will greatly improve the lives of the children of rural and poor communities. By giving them access to adequate educational facilities, you help make sure that they lead constructive childhoods and receive proper education. This will open many doors for them in the future and help them break the cycle of poverty in the future.


Skills and Qualifications

There are no requirements for joining this School Renovation Volunteer Experience in Thailand. All you need is a great love for disadvantaged communities and a passion for seeing their lives improved. You should be kind, flexible and respectful of other cultures.


Local Team & Daily Support

Our projects and experiences in Surin are highly organized. Your guide will accompany you and your fellow volunteers each day as you travel to the project by pickup. He will serve as a liaison and translator and take you for lunch in a local restaurant around noon.


Thailand School Renovation Project: Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok

On arrival, we will collect you at the airport and take you to the accommodation in the city. You’ll have the rest of the day to rest after your long flight and get to know your new traveling and volunteering companions.

Day 2: Tour of Bangkok and Khao San Road

On day 2 of your Thailand building volunteer project, you’ll get a quick orientation in the morning followed by a tour of Bangkok’s greatest sights, including a river cruise, the Temple of Dawn and the famous reclining Buddha. The day rounds out with a fun night out on the town with your new friends on Khao San Road.

Day 3: Train to Surin

You leave the big city behind and travel by train to Surin. The journey will last for roughly 8 hours and give you plenty of chances to take in the rural Thai scenery and take some amazing pictures.

Day 4 - 7: School Renovation Volunteer Work in Thailand

For the next four days you’ll get to roll up your sleeves and make a direct impact on the local community in Surin. You will assist in the development, renovation and construction of schools, daycare centers and playgrounds. Your guide will be on hand to ensure your volunteering experience is all it can be and serve as a translator when needed.

Day 8: Return to Bangkok

Your School Renovation Project is over and it’s time to return to Bangkok for your return flight or onwards travel. If you’re with us for more than a week, the three next days are your weekend free time and you’ll return to work on day 11.

Global Crossroad is committed to offering quality volunteering in Thailand programs at the world’s most affordable price. We strive to keep our costs low. The humanitarian side of the business is our passion.

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Thailand application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee . You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The program fee needs to be paid in GBP to directly to the country coordinator before the project start date.

The Thailand volunteer experience program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day


Accommodation and Meal

While you’re in Surin, you will stay in our safe and comfortable volunteer house. Here you’ll share a comfy room with fellow volunteers and have access to clean and modern bathroom facilities. Meals are not provided, but there’s a kitchen you can use whenever you want as well as plenty of options for food located nearby.

Free Time and Weekend Exploration

You’ll have time in the afternoon and evening after working each day to explore and enjoy Surin. If you’re with us for longer than a week, you’ll also get three full days each weekend to go on longer tours and excursions outside of Surin to explore broader Thailand.

Thailand School Renovation Project: FAQs

Arrival and departure

You need to fly into Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Your guide will be waiting for you at the airport to pick you up, and to facilitate this please provide us with your flight schedule and inform us of any delays or cancellations.

We do not provide transportation back to the airport at the completion of your project, but this is easy to arrange.

Visa

You will need to visit a Thai embassy or consulate to acquire a tourist visa to participate in our Thailand volunteering opportunities. This can take up to 2 weeks, so we advise arranging it well in advance. For information, visit the following link:

Vaccination

Vaccines against Hepatitis B, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Hepatitis A, Routine Vaccinations, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, and Rabies are highly recommended for anyone visiting or volunteering in Thailand.
