Have you always dreamt of visiting the remote but spectacular Galapagos Islands and working in a conservation project? In San Cristobal, one of the Islands in the Galapagos Archipelago, our conservation project works to protect the indigenous species from alien ones and our volunteers will contribute meaningfully in the volunteering overseas in conservation in the Galapagos Islands project and learn a great deal about the conservation project.

The Galapagos Island was never connected to other islands and never had indigenous human settlement. The plant and marine life there is unique and as Charles Darwin discovered they weren't influenced by the outside forces and were perfectly adapted to their natural environment. But as there is a human settlement in these islands now and an airport and a port to connect to the outside world, Galapagos Islands are no more secluded from the rest of the world.

New species arrive everyday and threaten indigenous ones. The volunteer abroad with conservation in the Galapagos Islands project faces a constant battle to eliminate this treat. The project also works with local farmers to develop agricultural practices that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Role of Volunteer

You will work and stay in San Cristobal Island, the eastern most of the islands. The Island has a port and an airport, hence lot of visitors and new species arrive there every day. You will work only during weekends and half days on Saturdays. Your work is generally divided into two areas: habitat restoration and agricultural components. Your work during your commitment to the volunteer with conservation program in the Galapagos Islands can include:

  • Reforestation – which will include nursery work, planting in reserve, collecting and classifying seeds
  • Maintenance – maintain trail, signs on the trail, work in construction activities, help with fresh water supply and help in the kitchen
  • Organic Agricultural activity – work to maintain and secure food production in the reserve and promote organic agriculture
