Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts
When you join volunteer English teaching program in Peru, you’ll be assisting an English teacher in a local school classroom, as well as possibly teaching at an orphanage, and working with an after-school program. The kids you’ll be teaching will come from low-income families and an impoverished background. Your jobs will be:

Skills and Qualifications
We welcome enthusiastic and passionate volunteers from a variety of backgrounds from around the world to join us. The only qualifications you’ll need are to be fluent in the English language (native speakers preferred) and a basic understanding of Spanish.
If your Spanish could use some work, we recommend enrolling in our Spanish Language Studies program in Cusco. You can take classes while you volunteer or do a full week immersion before starting your teaching English volunteer opportunity in Peru.
No previous teaching experience is required, though it will certainly come in handy if you have it. You should have a love for teaching, English and conversation. You should be enthusiastic, reliable, flexible, patient, and strive to be good role models for the children.
Each day of your Peru teaching English volunteer experience will find you fully engaged in teaching your students and having an amazing time abroad. Your actual hours worked will vary based on your final placement, but here’s a sample schedule to give you an idea of what to expect.
- First Day: On your first day, our in-country coordinator will take you to your placement and introduce you to the caring and dedicated local project staff. You’ll get to meet your eager new students, and then you’ll undergo an informative orientation.
- Orientation: Learn all about your Peru teaching English volunteer program, your schedule, safety, and the customs and culture of Peru.
- Weekdays: A typical volunteer day might look something like this:
- 7.00 to 7.30 AM: Start your day with a nice breakfast shared with your host family.
- 7.45 AM: Head to the local school and get ready for an exciting day teaching English in a classroom to Peruvian kids in need! Make a difference while having a great time.
- 12.00 PM: Take a break for lunch and chat with your fellow Peru teaching English volunteers. Make great new friends from around the world.
- 3.00 PM: After you’re done teaching for the day, you’re free to head out and explore Cusco. Take along one of your new friends and see more of this exciting destination.
- 6.45 PM: Enjoy a lovely traditional Peruvian dinner around the table with your local host family. Practice your Spanish, learn about a fascinating culture, and experience daily life in Peru.

All volunteer programs in Peru start at the beginning of each week. Global Crossroad is very flexible and understands that various travel constraints that you might face.
All volunteer work in Peru options are available year around, except at times programs like a volunteer teaching English overseas program might be closed for various holidays and vacations. Also, some programs are seasonal due to extreme weather conditions. Between the project link and a Global Crossroad representative, all of this specific information regarding programs dates will be available to you. If a program is unavailable, we will provide an alternative program for you to join.
Fees: Volunteer in Peru

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Peru application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).
In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to your host family and project. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

Program fees exclude:

The volunteering overseas in Peru program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.
Accommodation and Meal
When you join Peru orphanage volunteering program, you’ll have the amazing chance to stay in the home of a welcoming Peruvian family, and they will guide and encourage you throughout your stay abroad. You will enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable accommodations, and three local healthy meals a day. Staying with host family is a great chance to practice your Spanish, learn more about their culture, and make friends with your host family.

Arrival and departure
You’ll fly in to the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, Cusco when you join volunteering teaching English opportunity in Peru. You should always come one day before the start of your actual assignment to rest up and be ready for your volunteer experience.
Please send us your final flight details after your ticket is confirmed. Our airport representative will pick you up from the airport and transfer you safely to your accommodations.
Once you finish up as a volunteer teacher in Peru, you’ll need to set up your own taxi to the airport to head home. You can always travel a bit after your service work, as well, seeing more of the country while you’re there!
You’ll need a tourist visa, so do your research ahead of time based on your home country. You can get one on arrival at the airport if you are a citizen of the USA, UK, Canada and Australia.
