Volunteers have the unique opportunity to volunteer abroad in dental healthcare in Argentina and gain experience by working alongside dental professionals.

The program is designed to be a hands-on learning experience for volunteers who are choosing dentistry as a future career. Each volunteer will be assigned a mentor. You can think of this program as an internship, as well as a volunteer opportunity. Each mentor will be responsible for showing and teaching their volunteer different dental techniques.

Role of Volunteer

As a volunteer overseas in dental healthcare in Argentina with Global Crossroad, you will be working with local dentists and dental assistants for at least 20 hour a week. This is a unique opportunity to help improve the lives and dental health of those who might not be able to receive care otherwise. Daily activities may include:

  • Helping with lab work
  • Making models
  • Assisting dental professions
  • Learning about different procedures
  • Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas
  • Sterilizing instruments
  • Stocking dental materials
  • Helping with office maintenance
  • Making and confirming patient appointments
  • Following up with patients
  • Learning how to perform diagnosis and treatment plans for patient cases
  • Working with case presentations
  • Reading and understanding radiographs
  • Learning types of numbers and notation for teeth
  • Practicing terms related to dentistry, such as instrument names, tooth names, tooth surfaces, etc.
  • Reviewing oral hygiene with patients
  • Making patients comfortable
  • Assisting with administrative tasks and office procedures

Skills and Qualifications Needed

As a volunteer and intern in the volunteering in dental healthcare in Argentina, it is required that you are a college student who is taking classes that pertain to dentistry, or a college graduate who has yet to start dental school. It is necessary that you have beginner to intermediate Spanish skills.

If your Spanish skills are poor, Global Crossroad suggests that you enroll in the Spanish language program. This volunteer work in dental healthcare in Argentina position requires a minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week and an internship period of at least 8 weeks. You must also be willing eager to learn, flexible, patient, reliable, and respectful.

All volunteer programs in Argentina start every Monday of each month. However, if there is travel constrains, you can start any project on any day.

Global Crossroad's volunteer abroad in Argentina application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The volunteering in Argentina program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.
