Volunteer Kenya Orphanage!

Do you have a soft spot in your heart for children and want to travel overseas to lend a loving and helping hand? This project needs you!

Choose to spend a more meaningful vacation contributing your valuable time volunteering with orphaned children in Kenya. In collaboration with our local partner in Kenya, we invite enthusiastic volunteers to provide care and support to underprivileged children in Kenya. Help is needed to improve the living conditions and provide stimulating educational activities for the children.

During this project, you will work on the front lines to feed and provide assistance to these forgotten little ones. Children in these centers need your special encouragement to restore their hope for a meaningful future.


Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts

Although this is not an official teaching placement, you may teach conversational English during your volunteering in orphanage program in Kenya.

You will support recreational and artistic activities with the objective of entertaining and teaching. You will also help in the kitchen serving lunch in the dining room and assist with location-specific duties like routine maintenance and construction. Your role is invaluable to these children! You can also expect to be involved in duties like:

  • Teaching basic conversational English
  • Developing creative free-time programs such as dance, arts, music and other physical activities
  • Helping the children with various health and personal hygiene needs
  • Teaching life-skills
  • Housekeeping, as well as cooking and serving food to the children

Your work in this Kenya orphanage volunteer program will be very meaningful. The children share so much appreciation with you. Your love, skills and passion will greatly help the impoverished children learn life skills and lead a happy life.


Skills and Qualifications

No specific qualifications are required for this orphanage volunteering program in Kenya. You should have love for children, empathy for their unfortunate circumstances, and a willingness to share their compassion with them, while being patient and flexible.


When you arrive in Kenya, our local staff picks you at the airport and transport to accommodation. The next morning, our local staff gives you an orientation about country, safety, project, rules and regulations of the project, etc.

After orientation, you will be taken to your respective placement, introduced to local staffs and children. There is not such a fixed daily schedule as volunteering works vary every day. Here is sample daily schedule:

First Day: On your first day of Kenya orphanage volunteering program, you will be escorted to your placement by a local coordinator and introduced to the placement staff you will be working with.

  • Weekdays: A typical volunteer day is as follows:
  • 7.00 to 7.30 AM​: Breakfast at the volunteer accommodation.
  • 7.45 AM:  Volunteers leave home and travel to their placements. Work and hours are dependent on the project and placement that each volunteer is working at.
  • 12.00 PM: Lunch
  • 3.00 PM: Work at the placement usually ends. Volunteers are free to travel home, prepare for the next day or do some shopping and sightseeing.
  • 6.45 PM: Dinner.

The program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the pro-gram to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the volun-teer abroad in Kenya program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses


Accommodation and Meal

While volunteering in orphanage program in Kenya, you will stay with our warm welcoming host family. They will provide you with comfortable home with facilities including running water, electricity, and a western-style toilet. You will receive three meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) of traditional Kenyan cuisine.

Free Time and Weekend Exploration

While volunteering in Kenya in orphanage program, you will only work for 4-5 hours a day, therefore there will be plenty of time and opportunity to tour the surrounding communities and attractions. Additionally, you’ll have Saturday and Sunday to travel around the country, and go on longer tours and excursions.

Safety and In Country Support

Your safety is our first priority, we ensure the safety of all volunteers by carefully vetting host families, keeping them connected with in-country coordinators and local field staff.

Additionally, GCR provides in-country support to volunteers throughout their stay. This begins from the time you arrive at the airport and includes a detailed orientation, and through your host family.

Arrival and departure

You need to fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi for our work in orphanage volunteer project in Kenya. A local representative of Global Crossroad will come to pick you up at the international airport after your arrival.

We always suggest all of our volunteers to fly into Kenya one day prior to the start date of your volunteer project. It is recommended that our volunteers maintain a direct line of contact with our country coordinator in Kenya before boarding their flights.

It is the responsibility of our volunteers to inform us about flight delays and cancellation as soon as possible. But please know that we do not offer any kind of airport drop-off service after the completion of our work in orphanage volunteer work program in Kenya.

Visa

You need to obtain a tourist visa. You can obtain a tourist visa from the official Embassy or consulate of Kenya in your home country. You can also apply for visa on arrival depending on your nationality. You can also obtain a tourist visa online by visiting this website.
