This volunteer teaching English program in Cortes, Costa Rica involves teaching English to students at a local public school. The age group you will work with depends partly on your preference and partly on where a teacher is needed at the time of application.

As a volunteer English teacher your schedule will mean being in school every weekday from 8 in the morning until at least noon. Exact finish times depend on the age group you will be teaching. You will provide assistance to the regular class teacher, as well as occasionally teaching your own English classes.

Role of Volunteer

You will teach and help out as needed when completing your volunteer teaching English program in Cortes, Costa Rica. You should do so with a caring, positive, helpful, and professional attitude at all times. You will primarily focus on teaching conversational business skills, vocabulary by profession, and basic conversational skills. You will determine on a case-by-case basis their lesson plans in accordance with the adult's personal reasons and needs for learning the English language. You will assist the teachers in local schools will require volunteers to help with the pronunciation of words, sentence structures, vocabulary, colloquialisms, culture, and basic conversational skills.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

For the most rewarding experience it is best to have some level of skill in Spanish, even if this is basic. If you cannot speak Spanish at all you would benefit from joining our Spanish language program. In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The volunteering overseas in Costa Rica program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.
