There is a growing demand for teachers and people interested in volunteering as part of the volunteer program to teach English in China. The main area for volunteers to cover is conversational English skills, which will be taught to primary and junior high school students.

Global Crossroad is currently involved with several Chinese public schools and most of them are located in rural areas that serve children of farmers and other working class-citizens. Non-native English speakers are also invited to join this volunteer overseas teaching English project.

Many public schools in China have established an "English corner," an area of the classroom designed and set aside for teaching and learning English.

These schools are very eager for international teachers to join the volunteer teaching English in China program! Unfortunately, only private, exclusive urban schools tend to attract native English teachers.

Most rural schools are desperately searching for quality English teachers. Your time and effort will be so important in strengthening these student's English skills, which will enable them to compete equally in the workforce as they grow older. This volunteering experience teaching English in China is a great chance to make a real difference in the lives of these children. Skills and Qualifications

No specific qualifications are needed to join the volunteer program teaching English in China. However, volunteers should have a strong English fluency, especially in conversational English. Non-native English speakers are welcome in this project, provided that they can speak, read, and write in English with complete fluency.

No salary or benefits are offered to volunteers with this project. No previous teaching experience is required. You should have a love for teaching English and conversation. You should be enthusiastic, reliable, flexible, patient, and a positive role model for students.

Volunteers must be between 18 to 60 years old

Volunteers must be a native English speaker or be fluent in English with clear accent.

Volunteer for more than 1 month need TEFL qualification.

All volunteer programs in China start every Monday of each month. However, if there is travel constrains, you can start any project on any day.

China Volunteer English Teaching Program is not available in January and 1st to 7th October, 2020.

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in China application and registration fee cost US $299.

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The volunteering programs in China fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses.

What is the name of the school I will be assigned to when I sign up to volunteer abroad teaching English in China?

Various schools are part of the Global Crossroad’s volunteer program teaching English in China. The information regarding your specific placement will be forwarded to you as soon as the arrangements and details are set.

How old are the students that I will be teaching to as part of the volunteering overseas teaching English in China project?

Your students will range from kindergarten age to over 18 years old, depending on your school placement.

How many students can I expect to be in a classroom? How many students are there in the entire school?

The average size of a class is around 20 students. However, you might have to teach classes of up to 50 students. This information is specific to each individual school.

Is there a set curriculum when volunteering to teach English in China?

This information is also specific to each individual school. Some schools give volunteer teachers the liberty to create and implement their own curricula, while other schools have a set curriculum that must be followed. All necessary information will be given to you prior to your first class.

How many hours a day am I expected to teach?

Volunteers teaching English in China are typically expected to work between four and five hours a day.

Will the school to which I am assigned provide me with all the necessary teaching materials?

Yes. Most likely, the school to which you are assigned will provide you with everything that you need to conduct your classes

Is this program available all year long?

The volunteer abroad teaching English in China opportunity is available all year round in the training schools. In public placements, there is a vacation period of three and a half months in which the project is unavailable.
