Located in the northwest of Thailand around the border with Myanmar (previously known as Burma), Sangklaburi is a beautiful and mountainous area with local Thai people, Karen, Mon and Burmese immigrants making up most of its population, adding in to the diversity of the community.

The volunteering overseas with the building program in Thailand supports local people of Sangkhlaburi, with the construction and renovation of community focused facilities. You will be provided with the specific details of the particular project during your local orientation. Activities in the volunteer with the building project in Thailand can be diverse and can typically get you involved in the renovation and construction of childcare centers with the motive of improving local infrastructures.

Role of Volunteer

You will be helped and guided by the coordinators, and you will be required to work under the local Thai foreman, who will be training and mentoring you on local construction methods. You will get your hands dirty, mixing cement, using the 'job', rendering bamboo, digging foundations, fencing, gardening and painting; but dirty hands will not matter when you get the satisfaction of getting involved in something noble as community service. You can also expect getting involved in performing duties like clearing away the tools at the end of the day and doing the basic cleaning and maintaining of the hand tools they use. This will be a highly rewarding experience! You will also be in the perfect position to explore all that Thailand has to offer during your free time.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

Volunteers do not need a specific set of skills of requirement for this volunteering with the building program in Thailand. However, if you feel you possess an important skill that might be beneficial for the project, please do let us know. Flexibility is highly regarded from volunteers, who are also expected to be patient. The project requires volunteers to be physically fit and have the passion for working with and for the local people.

Volunteering overseas with the building program in Thailand does not mean committing into work 24/7. You will have to work only for 5 days a week and will have the weekends to yourself, which can be used to explore local areas and do their own work. Volunteering comes with some great perks: traveling and immersing into the local Thai culture. Thailand's beauty will have you awestruck. Our staff can organize your free time or end of placement travel on request.
