When you sign up for the volunteer with Monkeys program in Guanacaste, Costa Rica in the wilderness near the beach on this exciting and unusual project. Many monkeys and other exotic and injured animals are brought to the project, where they are rehabilitated and released once they are back to full health. For this reason, the animals we have are always changing.

Volunteers all live at the project and get involved with various aspects of our work, such as helping to feed, clean and give general care to the animals. You will also work with premature efforts. The aim of this project is also to be self- sustaining. Food is continually being planted and harvested to feed the animals and volunteers of this amazing project. You may be asked to supply some of your own food or contribute between $5-$20 a week for food when home grown food supplies are not ready.

You will reside in a shared cabin or in a tent. There is a communal kitchen and two outdoor jungle showers. Surprisingly, we have very good Wifi! This will be a fulfilling and magical experience. Role of Volunteer

You will start your day with a brief meeting at 7:00am to assign and discuss the day’s work. You will be in charge of helping with animals at the site, as well as eco-sustainability projects and the projects. This volunteer abroad with monkeys in Guanacaste, Costa Rica requires 30 hours of work a week. You will be able to choose your shifts.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Spanish is preferred (but not essential). Volunteers with limited or zero Spanish skills could enroll in our Spanish language program, as this will definitely enhance the entire volunteer experience - for them and the local project participants. Although there are no particular qualifications needed to take part in this volunteering overseas with monkeys in Guanacaste, Costa Rica project volunteers should have a serious interest in the work they will undertake, be calm, adaptable and open to new experiences.

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Costa Rica application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

How your fee is allocated?

The volunteering overseas in Costa Rica program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.
