Volunteer in an Orphanage in Ghana Summary

Unfortunately, many of the orphanages in Ghana do not receive sufficient funding and are understaffed. For these reasons, there is a strong demand for orphanage volunteers in Ghana.

Your dedication to the volunteer in Ghana in an orphanage project will make a world of a difference in the lives of the children for whom you care.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

Volunteer Responsibilities

When you volunteer with the healthcare program in Ghana, you will assist local doctors and nurses in a number of helpful ways.

You will also tend to and educate the patients. You will volunteer in local clinics and hospitals and can help in a number of specialized departments, including gynecology, pediatrics, neurology, and obstetrics.

Volunteer Program Fees & Dates

Global Crossroad has offered some of the most affordable volunteer programs in Ghana since 2003. The goal of Global Crossroad is to make international volunteering accessible for a wide range of budgets.

There is a great need for volunteers all over the globe and in all different types of programs; Ghana is one of those places.

When you volunteer abroad in Ghana, you will be required to pay a one-time registration fee of $299 and then a weekly program fee.

Your weekly program fee will be directly allocated to your host family or accommodation, your chosen volunteer project in Ghana, and to your in-country support team.

Your weekly program fee does not cover the cost of your mandatory travel insurance (don’t worry, it only costs $3.49 a week), your airport pick-up and drop off, your language and culture program (voluntary), your flights, visas, and any personal expenses.  Fortunately, Ghana is a very affordable destination.

Arrangement of Room, Food, and Supervision

When you join a volunteering project in Ghana, you will likely stay with a host family. Your host family will have had prior experience hosting international volunteers and are carefully chosen by Global Crossroad. Staying with a host family is a unique cultural immersion opportunity.

Your home away from home will be located in a safe place and you will have your basic needs met.

You will enjoy three locally inspired and home cooked meals a day while in Ghana. Traditional meals will vary depending on where your volunteer program in Ghana is located. Staples in the Ghanaian diet consist of cassavas, plantains, yams, wild mushrooms, tomatoes, fish, meat, and rice.

You will dine with your host family for most meals.  

While you are volunteering in Ghana, you will always be able to get in touch with your in-country coordinator. He or she will live close to where you are volunteering and be available via telephone or email 24/7.

Your in-country coordinator will also personally and periodically check in with you to ensure that you are having the most amazing volunteer experience in Ghana.
