Our Volunteer Abroad Story

In 2003, our founders started a small volunteer abroad program in a select few continental Asian countries with the main idea of supporting ongoing, local grassroots organizations. Within a few months of launching our program, we received an overwhelming number of responses from our volunteers as well as those interested in our unique approach. Many volunteers who returned from abroad described their experiences as truly memorable, rewarding, meaningful, eye-opening and life-changing - being exposed to a whole new world! These original (and enthusiastic) volunteers insisted that we offer even more - expanding our volunteer experience to offer more variety, such as expeditions and learning components (i.e. cultural immersion and language classes, independent travel, etc.). In response to the inspiring enthusiasm of our past vocal volunteers, we expanded out projects to include continental Africa and Latin/South America. Within JUST three (3) years, we emerged as one of the leading volunteer-abroad organizations - sending nearly 1800 volunteers to 32 countries AROUND the WORLD!

Our TEFL Story

In the past 3 years, we received hundreds of phone calls inquiring about studying-abroad opportunities. Many of these calls were from enthusiastic college students with an adventuresome spirit and a desire to begin a career abroad but were restrained by a tight budget. Setting up numerous partnerships with various public, private and semi-private schools throughout China , we were able to accommodate these eager world-travelers by offering them not only a salary but an opportunity to explore the vast land and history of China . Presently, on average, Global Crossroad sends 200 English-teachers to China EACH year - making us an industry-leading, teacher-placement agency.

In the past, Global Crossroad was contacted by numerous school and language institutes in China , Thailand , South Korea , Japan , Vietnam , Taiwan , as well as other countries requesting "qualified TEFL instructors." Striving to continually meet the increasing demands of our volunteers, as well as those looking to experience life in another country, we decided to seek an alliance with some of the top, industry-leading TEFL institutes around the world, thus beginning our voyage into the realm of TEFL abroad.

Initially beginning our search for the very best, most internationally-recognized TEFL-certification providers, we were quite overwhelmed. With so many so-called "best TEFL programs," the information was confusing and sometimes controversial.
