Frequently Asked Questions

Arrival Information

All participants should arrive at the Madrid Barajas International Airport.

Transfer from Airport to Host Family/Hostel/Hotel

Global Crossroad provides airport pick-up and a transfer service - transferring participants to their respective living accommodations. NOTE: We DO NOT offer airport drop-off services - participants are responsible for arranging their own return transportation once the program has commenced. Teachers are required to provide their flight information prior to arrival in Madrid.

How can I contact the school if I arrive before the start of the TEFL program?

In the event that participants arrive before the proposed start date, they are advised to remain in a suggested hotel where they will then call our offices. This information, such as the address and telephone numbers of our Madrid partner's office, will be included in the final placement details provided in the supplied pre-departure booklet

Living Accommodations/Meals

Accommodations in Madrid are usually within a shared apartment with other TEFL participants. Depending on the size and available amenities, participants can expect to pay anywhere between 200-400 Euro/month. Other housing options available to participants are within a hostel - usually running between 15-30 Euro/night.

Madrid 's local cuisine consists of numerous Mediterranean influences. One of the most ever-present dishes famous in Madrid is "Tapas" - an appetizer often accompanying drinks and can often range from simple finger foods such as french fries and various cheeses to friend squid. Other popular dishes include "paella" - a rice dish with a variety of either seafood or vegetables. Fish and various forms of seafood are also usually found in many dishes (such as the 'bocadillo de calamares' which is a sandwich stiffed with fried squid).

Internet/Telephone/Medical Facilities

Global Crossroad's TEFL school is located in the heart of Madrid - the 3 rd largest city in the European Union behind Paris and London - offering all these facilities/services throughout the cit as well as at our partnering TEFL institute.

Climate

The region containing Madrid has a mild, Mediterranean climate. The coldest temperatures in Madrid 's winters often dip below 0  (ºC) (32  (ºF ). Summer months often see warmer temperatures - usually rising to (and often above) 30 ºC/86 ºF. Extreme temperatures have been known to reach up to 40 ºC/104 ºF.
