Arrival Information
All participants should arrive in Buenos Aires at Ministro Pistarini International Airport - located in the suburb of Ezeiza. NOTE: the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery airport primarily serves domestic air-transportation.
Transfer from Airport to Host Family/Hostel/Hotel
Public transportation is quite popular and efficient in Buenos Aires - with numerous bus and rail systems running throughout the city as well as to surrounding suburbs and areas. Program fees DO NOT cover airport pick-up. For an additional fee, Global Crossroad can arrange airport pick-up for participants - transferring participants to their respective accommodations. NOTE: We DO NOT offer airport drop-off services - participants are responsible for arranging their own return transportation once the program has commenced. Teachers are required to provide their flight information prior to arrival in Buenos Aires .
How can I contact the school if I arrive before the start of the TEFL program?
In the event that participants arrive before the proposed start date, they are advised to remain in a suggested hotel where they will then call our offices. This information, such as the address and telephone numbers of our Buenos Aires partner's office, will be included in the final placement details provided in the supplied pre-departure booklet
Accommodations/Meals
Living accommodations and meals are not covered by standard course fees. However, Global Crossroad can assist in arranging accommodations in nearby apartments and/or living communities. Most accommodations are air-conditioned and are clean, moderate and located near some of Buenos Aires ' most stunning attractions as well as other exciting amenities. Accommodations are reasonably-priced (approximately $300-$500 USD/month). Global Crossroad strongly recommends that participants budget approximately $10-30/day for food.
Argentinean cuisine is heavily-influenced by the local people's Italian and Spanish heritage. Excellent and delicious pizza can be found throughout Buenos Aires - both pan, medium and thin crust. Other staples include the "empanada" (usually small, meat-stuffed pastries) as well as "asado" (beef-based barbeque) and the "bife de lomo" (beef tenderloin). While there are vegetarian options available, meat - especially beef - is a staple in Argentinean cuisine.
Internet/Telephone/Medical Facilities
Global Crossroad's TEFL school is located in the heart of Buenos Aires - the very modern and very popular capital city in Argentina . Internet cafes (known as 'cibercafés') are abundant and are located in various places throughout the city as well as both international and domestic/local phone service. Also: medical facilities are located throughout the entire city. Presently, there are numerous wi-fi hotspots found throughout the city with more popping up everyday!
Climate
Buenos Aires ' climate is quite temperate with temperatures averaging between 10 and 25 ºC (50 ºF and 78 ºF). In the coastal region, the winds originating from the Atlantic Ocean (in the east) usually result in cooler evenings in the summertime and high levels of humidity during the winter months. Varying rainfall occasionally produces some flooding in the flatter terrains. A meteorological phenomenon, known as the "Sudestada" (translation: 'south hit') often yields storms and drastic drops in temperatures. One of these storms - known as the Santa Rosa - remarkably takes place almost EVERY year on August 30 th .
