With a civilization more than 5,000 years old, as well as a unique, tradition-filled culture, China stands as one of the biggest countries, not only in terms of its population, but also in its culture, tradition, vibrant, and economic growth. Join Global Crossroad's Summer Camp and Cultural Tour and discover the world renowned China – home to mysterious and influential cultures, exotic religions, and a colorful and engaging history while simultaneously helping the eager Chinese children to learn the English language.

Greetings in Shanghai (Day 1-2)
Arrive in Shanghai! Reputed as “the Paris of the East;” Shanghai is a vibrant, ever-changing city with a legendary history brimming with traditional Chinese culture. We will have a special pick-up staff in the airport awaiting your arrival. The staff will be holding a piece of paper with your name on it. Depending your arrival time, you will be transferred to a local hostel (close to the airport) if you arrive after 16:00 PM local time. In the hostel, you will rest and prepare for the following day’s transfer to the destination, OR you will be sent to take the airport shuttle bus to Hangzhou directly and then be picked up by local summer camp organizer’s delegate in Hangzhou. Orientation program before summer escape begins on the first night (if you are staying in Shanghai) or the second day in Hangzhou. You will also have an opportunity to explore nearby areas – observing China’s local life, people, and landscapes prior to the beginning of summer camp teaching.
Activities: Airport receive, transfer, preparation for orientation, free time
Orientation of Summer Escapes (Day 3)
Start of summer Escape Orientation (in outlying areas of Shanghai or Hangzhou) covering the following topics:
• TEFL methodologies in Chinese Summer Camps
• Practice of basic Mandarin words – greetings; some words of daily use
• Question/answer covering Chinese culture, people, and challenges of teaching job
• Discussion on program itinerary.
Once each participant is assigned their respective Summer Camp, there will be free time where participants can further familiarize themselves with fellow teachers from Global Crossroad.
Activities: Orientation lectures, Question/answer session, basic Mandarin lessons, practical TEFL courses
NOTE: No participant will be allowed to swap their locations with other participants. No change of placement is allowed once it is assigned
Traveling to Summer Camp, Day 4-5
Travel/transfer to respective Summer Camp by plane, train, or bus (depending upon the location of said Summer Camp). Work as an English teacher for a maximum of 20 days (some camps are as short as 12 days) in Summer Camps scattered along China's southeast coast, south of the Yangtze River Delta, Inner-Mongolia, and Shandong Province. Teach conversational English (inside school classrooms) to enthusiastic Chinese students. In free time, explore the great land of China, meet people, observe and understand Chinese culture and their ways of life.
Activities: Transfer to Summer Camp (school), work as English teacher, self travel and exploration, and experience the greatness of China
Teaching in Summer English Camp (Day 6-26)
Work as an English teacher for a maximum of 20 days (some camps are as short as 12 days, and will be notified otherwise). Based on the orientation techniques, most of the participants’ will teach students (6–17 years of age) inside normal day-school classrooms. An English-speaking Chinese assistant will be assigned to participants on a daily basis to ensure successful classroom management and discipline. During free time, participants can explore nearby areas, visit with Chinese families, watch movies and attend various performances.
Activities: teaching in classroom. Meeting local people and learning Chinese culture and customs
Participants are required to first receive approval of local camp manager/Chinese school teachers before independently participate local traveling.
FOUR- day Exploration and Travel (Day 27-30)
Join a 4-day-group program traveling in and around China's most attractive city, Beijing! Visit sites boasting numerous historic relics, the Forbidden City, the Olympic Gym as well as observe the ancient tombs of Emperors and climb the Great Wall and such.
Activities: 4 days of China capital city tour
Program itineraries are merely samples and are likely to change to meet alterations in field conditions. This itinerary will be finalized in Global Crossroad's China Office during orientation period.
Please email a copy of your flight details to our China in-country coordinator Mr Jeff Gao at china@globalcrossroad.com once it has been booked so that rooms and meals can be arranged accordingly. Participants are required to pay for room/food if arriving before July 5.
