Orientation in Nairobi(Day 1)

Meet with Global Crossroad's local staff members, participate in a general question/answer sessions, discussion on summer volunteer abroad program in Kenya itinerary, general orientation on history, culture, tradition and other important issues (health, safety), and exploration of nearby areas in free time.

Service Projects - Work in an orphanage (23 Days)

Enjoy warm and welcoming hospitality of the Kenyan people while living with a host family and experience rich Kenyan culture and tradition and day-to-day lifestyle of villagers. For 21 days of this portion of your summer volunteering program in Kenya, you will work in an orphanage - sharing your love and time with the needy children in the surrounding areas of Nairobi and Mombasa of Kenya, teaching them basic conversational English and encouraging them to face the challenging world where English is becoming more and more of a necessity. In your free time, participants can hike to nearby bazaars and/or hillside villages; explore the beauty of mesmerizing Kenya - gaining first-hand experience of Kenyan lifestyle, culture, and values.

Kenyan Safari (4 days/3 nights): Lake Nakura, Maasai Mara game reserve

With your heart full of satisfaction, knowing that you have been able to make a positive impact in the lives of the needy children, it is time to head onto a Kenyan safari where you will encounter a multitude of animals - including lions, hippos, giraffes, wildebeests, zebra, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs and a variety of antelopes and elephants in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. All these distinct animals have made the Maasai Mara so well known around the world. The most spectacular event of the natural world takes place with the migration of millions of wildebeests and zebras - coming to the Maasai Mara region from the Serengeti in search of water. Following these animals are the predators of the savanna - from lions to cheetahs, to wild dogs, to hyenas and other vultures.

Summer Volunteer Program in Kenya Complete Itinerary

Day Prior to the Start of your Best Summer Volunteering Program in Kenya

You will be picked up from the Kenyatta International airport and transferred to your host family.

Day 1: Orientation in Nairobi

Meet with Global Crossroad's staff members, facilitate a general question/answer sessions, discussion on program itinerary, general orientation on history, culture, tradition, and other important issues (health, safety), and exploration of nearby areas in free time Accommodation: hostels or simple hotel (shared room). All meals are included.

Day 2-24: Volunteer in an Orphanage and Other Service Projects

Enjoy the warm and welcoming hospitality of Kenyan people living while living with a host family or working with local people. Experience the rich Kenyan culture and tradition and the day to day lifestyle of the local people. Hike in the villages and explore Kenyan life. For 22 days of your summer volunteering opportunity in Kenya, you will work in an orphanage – sharing you love and time with the needy children in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Day 25-28: Safari

You will be guided through some of the most amazing parks in Kenya over the span of 4 days. You will witness the rhinos and flamingos of Lake Nakuru National Park, the geological wonderment of the Great Rift Vallet, as well as the unfettered culture of the Massai Mara and its epic kaleidoscope of wildlife species, including zebra, antelope, buffalo, wildebeest, and hyena.

You are required to arrive at Hotel 680 by 7am.

Day 25: Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, you will travel to Thompson Falls, followed by a descent to the floor of the daunting Rift Valley and onto Lake Nakuru National Park . The remainder of the day will consist of exploring the wonderful diversity of birds as well as opportunities to observe Lake Nakuru's famed population of rhinoceros, leopards and flamingo. Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided.

Day 26-28: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

For the duration of these three days, this particular stretch of the tour – guarantees to supply lasting memories – explores the enchanting, awe-inspiring land of the world-renowned Maasai – a cattle-herding culture still defiantly untouched by the trappings of the western world. Within the realm of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, multiple safaris provide opportunities to observe Africa 's largest pride of lions as well as herds-upon-herds of zebra and antelope, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, cheetah and hyena.

On fifth day, you will awake for an early morning game drive, followed by breakfast. Here, you will say your good-byes and express your gratitude to your guides before being escorted back to you respective project locations.

Day 29

Fly Out of Kenya

Summer volunteering program in Kenya itineraries are merely samples and may change to meet the needs of the volunteers as well as field conditions. This itinerary will be finalized on the start day of this program during orientation in Nairobi.
