Volunteer In Orphanage in Sri Lanka

Project Summary

You can make a positive mark in the world by touching the lives of orphaned children. Sri Lankan orphanage volunteering is an excellent opportunity to make a difference that will last a lifetime. For several years, our partner organizations in Sri Lanka have hosted orphanages – giving care and hope to displaced, abandoned and abused children. Orphanage volunteer programs in Sri Lanka are designed to provide a brighter future to these disadvantaged and innocent children. Volunteers bring love and supply energy to these programs – teaching conversational English or simply being a special and caring friend. Our Sri Lanka volunteer orphanage programs allow you to personally take children by the hand and lead them in the right direction, while giving them a small glimpse of a future where despair is replaced by hope.

The job responsibilities of orphanage volunteers depend on the needs of the orphanage at the current time as well as the skills and interests of the volunteers. However, most volunteers will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Teaching basic conversational English
  • Developing creative free-time programs such as dance, arts, music and other physical activities
  • Helping the children with various health and personal hygiene needs
  • Teaching life-skills
  • Housekeeping as well as cooking and serving food to the children

Skills/Qualification Needed

No specific qualifications are required for Sri Lanka orphanage volunteering, but your understanding of Sri Lankan culture and language can help improve your experience. Consider enrolling in our one-week Language & Cultural Immersion program. Volunteers should have love for children, empathy for their unfortunate circumstances and willingness to share their passion with them while being patient and flexible.

Volunteer in Sri Lanka: Project Locations and Free Time Options

The locations for our volunteer in Sri Lanka are in and around the small beautiful town of Galle, approximately 120 km from Colombo. Galle is one of the most popular tourist areas of Sri Lanka boasting a nice beautiful coastline and diverse landscapes including beaches, marshlands, dry planes and hills. There are many prominent landmarks in Galle that stands as an ideal example of a fortified city built by the Europeans in South and Southeast Asia. The lasting architectural style is a unique fusion of European buildings with South Asian traditions. The Galle Fort is a world heritage site and remains the largest fortress in Asia built by Europeans.

Free time allows volunteers to explore beautiful beaches or visit various Buddhist and Hindu temples as well as mosques, churches, parks, zoos, national parks, museums and art galleries. Many beautiful communities on the north side of Galle provide a chance to explore Sri Lankan village life. Volunteers will have access to internet cafés and other traveler amenities in Galle and many restaurants in Galle serve western-style foods.
