A member of the European Union since 1986, Spain 's mainland is encapsulated by the Mediterranean on its south and east end; the Bay of Biscay on its north; and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. One of the three sovereign states within the Iberian Peninsula - the others being Portugal and Andorra - Spain is the largest.
Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Spain are located in Bilbao - located in the North of Spain - the largest city in the Basque Country and the capital of the province of Biscay . Bilbao is also host to the Fine Arts Museum which is recognized as one of Spain 's finest art museum in addition to the oh-so-interesting and newly rebuilt/refurbished Maritime Museum (located on the river Nervión River where the architecturally-astonishing Zubizuri footbridge is located).
