Women’s and Rural Development Groups

Global Crossroad’s women’s development project aims to empower rural women and, through them, the entire family. The goal of the project is to help families stay healthy, move economically above the poverty line, and gain the ability to analyze their own situation and use their knowledge to make changes when necessary.

Part of this project is an environmental program that works closely with the community, a children’s toy bank and library in the village, a school improvement program, and arts and crafts classes for children during holidays. There may also be an opportunity to gain exposure to herbal medicine, organic farming, and other unusual practices.

The type of work that the volunteers will do depends on their interests; volunteers will also be given a choice of work when they arrive. A minimum of 3 months is required if you want to be involved in this kind of project.

The workday begins at 8:30 a.m. with a 15-minute tea break at 10:45 a.m. Lunch is from 12-1 p.m. Evening tea is served about 4.30 p.m. and the staff leaves at about 6 p.m. Those who are working in the villages normally take some time to rest in the afternoons before they leave in the evening for their village.
