Gradual Increase in Workload/Hours
The first month spent teaching in Taiwan is usually a combination of becoming acquainted with the schools' specification/requirements of education/learning English. After the initial month where teachers are introduced to the curriculum, their workload is gradually increased to the minimum number of hours as indicated by their respective contracts (as stated above in the ‘Contracts' section).
Raises and Bonuses
Teachers are evaluated every six (6) months and given raises based on their evaluations. Additionally, teachers are also awarded bonuses in the event that a majority of their students decide to return the following term to receive additional English-based education.
Interest-Free Setup Loan
Our affiliated institute offers an optional, interest-free startup loan for qualifying applicants – which can be paid back in six (6) months. This loan is used primarily for instructors setting up their new living accommodations.
Contract Renewals – Extended Leaves, Renewal Bonuses
Our partnering institutes provide an optional extra one (1) month of vacation time to qualifying participants who renew their contract upon completion of their first year of teaching (in addition to the time-off stated above). ALSO: should teachers choose to stay beyond their first year – signing a new contract and agreeing to teach for an additional year – these participants receive a contract renewal bonus for each additional year agreeing to teach.
Assistance in Learning Chinese
Our affiliated institute also offers optional Mandarin-language lessons for those wishing to learn the Chinese spoken in Taiwan . Instructors are also provided with audio-assistance materials and various Taiwan-oriented publications to aid in acquainting newcomers to the wonders of Taiwan – its language, people, sites, and cultures.
Ongoing Support
Our partnering institute provides assistance to all new teachers in locating suitable accommodations – easing into the transition of living in Taiwan as well as helping to hurdle any obstacles which newcomers may encounter in the initial teaching period. Nearly all classes include a Chinese-speaking “co-teacher” who is there to assist English-teachers should the need arise.
Vacation, Sick Leave and National Holidays
Participants are allowed up to fourteen (14) working days vacation EACH year. Additionally, schools care closed approximately 6-8 days for national holidays EACH year. NOTE: Christmas is not a national holiday in Taiwan , but all foreign teachers are allowed this day off as an extra day of vacations. An acceptable duration of days off for the use of sick days is seven (7) days. (NOTE: all days off from teaching are unpaid.)
National Health Insurance
Upon acceptance in this particular English-teaching program (upon receipt of a Resident Visa), Our partnering institute will apply for national health insurance for each participant which will be deducted from participants' monthly salary. NOTE: Taiwan 's health system is well-equipped – offering dental and traditional Chinese remedies.
Taxes
Taiwan 's Withholding Rates is 20% for the first 183 days of a calendar year – dropping to 10% after that. Teachers are eligible to files their taxes during the tax-filing season: March 1 st to May 31 st and are required to file their taxes upon completion of employment and departure from Taiwan . Our partnering institute provides assistance to teachers when filing, but it is ultimately the responsibility of teachers to files their own taxes (NOTE: teachers usually receive a significant return on their filed taxes)/
