Qualification

  • Be a native English-speaker of an English-speaking country
  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
  • TESOL or TEFL Certificates, Education Degrees, or Teaching Experience is preferred (but not required)
  • Be fluent and proficient in the English language’s grammar and structure and be able to communicate fluently and competently with clear and distinct pronunciation and manners.

Program: Paid Teaching Japan
Start dates Positions Commencing in August/September
Departure and End Point: Narita International Airport, Chiba Prefecture
Minimum Contract: Late August/Early September till March of the following year (approx. 6 mos.)
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, Native English-Speaker, 12 years education in English medium, be available to attend an interview in a designated city, professionalism, positive attitude, adaptability to Japanese culture, willingness to relocate to Japan
Work Hours: 29.5 hours/week
Location: Throughout Japan

The Job

Teaching English in Japan consists of teaching English, lesson preparations, curriculum design, preparing assessments/tests, etc. Most participants teach within public schools within junior high and elementary schools – often teaching at a combination of the two. The junior high students usually range in ages between 12-15 years of age; elementary students between 6-11 years of age. There are a limited number of high school positions with students ranging in ages between 15-18 years of age. Most English-teachers work between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm – Monday through Friday. In addition, some teachers may be required to attend special events – sometimes occurring on weekends.

Salary and Benefits

English-teachers usually qualify for a salary of 250,000 yen/month ( approximately USD $2075.00/month).

NOTE: this salary is calculated before withholding taxes are deducted – which is usually an average of 7%. Also, the monthly salary includes an attendance bonus which is paid in full each month if all professional obligations are met. There are some positions which pay between 260,000 – 280,000/month but are dependant upon specific criteria (i.e. location, special requirements ).

Other benefits include visa sponsorship, reimbursement of travel expenses (for commuting to teaching assignment from living accommodations) and occasionally accommodating preferences of location.

Our partnering institute also offers optional, online Japanese-language lessons for all interested participants.

Subsidized Health Insurance

Our partnering institutes offer subsidized, comprehensive health insurance for teachers. This insurance is available at a small fee which is to be paid each month. This insurance is offered at a discounted rate for all full-time employees.
