The Job
Teaching English in Japan consists of teaching English, lesson preparations, curriculum design, preparing assessments/tests, etc. Most participants teach within public schools within junior high and elementary schools often teaching at a combination of the two. The junior high students usually range in ages between 12-15 years of age; elementary students between 6-11 years of age. There are a limited number of high school positions with students ranging in ages between 15-18 years of age. Most English-teachers work between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. In addition, some teachers may be required to attend special events sometimes occurring on weekends.
Salary and Benefits
English-teachers usually qualify for a salary of 250,000 yen/month ( approximately USD $2075.00/month).
NOTE: this salary is calculated before withholding taxes are deducted which is usually an average of 7%. Also, the monthly salary includes an attendance bonus which is paid in full each month if all professional obligations are met. There are some positions which pay between 260,000 280,000/month but are dependant upon specific criteria (i.e. location, special requirements ).

Our partnering institutes offer subsidized, comprehensive health insurance for teachers. This insurance is available at a small fee which is to be paid each month. This insurance is offered at a discounted rate for all full-time employees.
