Overview of the Project
Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world is very rich in nature. And this beautiful nature draws the attention of many tourists from all over the world. With the promotion of tourism industry, lots of Nepalese now have opportunities to work in tourist related sectors like hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars making every individual lured towards learning the language of the tourist – English. Not only in the tourism sector but it is considered that fluency in English is the first breakthrough towards attaining a good and high paying job in Nepal .
The children of Nepal are very keen to learn and improve their conversational English. All the schools in Nepal , from public, private to boarding schools also put emphasis on English education. The students of boarding schools are better in their English standards compared to public and government run schools. Due to the exorbitant school fees, most of the people in Nepal cannot afford boarding schools and they are destined to public schools where the level of English education is very poor. All the schools in Nepal have their own curriculum and volunteers teach English based on it.
Most of the public and government schools in Nepal are resource poor, under staffed, and the English level of the teachers also not up to the mark. Volunteers while teaching English to the students can also assist the teachers. Apart from teaching English, volunteers can also teach extra curricular activities to develop the perceiving power of the children and also help in the administrative works.
Role of Volunteer
Volunteers will primarily work as English instructors either in public and private schools of Nepal . Depending upon the need, volunteers may be asked to assist in other school extra curricular activities like sports.
