| Overview
of the Project
The
youth-based community center (vocational
center for disadvantaged young) aims to
help local youths in both skill-based and
educational development. Therefore, activities
of the youth community center focus on teaching
English, teaching computer techniques, handicrafts
and other skill-based training. The center
also organizes numerous camps such as teaching
English and French, environmental conservation,
manual work, children care. This project
is located in the urban setting of Mediouna,
Casablanca.
Casablanca is the economic
capital of Morocco. It's also the city with
the largest population in Morocco (+2 million).
In spite of this, Casablanca also offers
numerous monumental, cultural and artistic
activities. Casablanca is approximately
100km from Rabat with the airport approximately
30km from the city’s center.
Role of Volunteers
This project primarily
focuses on skill development and education.
In effect, volunteers can assist the local
youth by participating in many ongoing activities.
Some activities include:
- Teach computer/IT skills
- Teach foreign languages – especially
English
- Support the staff/co-workers in the
administrative duties of the center and
its activities.
Skills and Qualifications
No teaching experience
or qualifications are needed to work in
this particular project. Participants should
possess a working knowledge of the English
language. Global Crossroad expects volunteers
to be flexible, responsible, patient, mature,
and motivated. And most importantly, participants
should have a passion for teaching children.
Also: knowledge of the French language is
helpful.
Room/Food/Supervision
Global Crossroad manages
food and accommodations for volunteers in
Morocco. Volunteers can stay either with
a host family or in a hostel. Three (3)
meals a day will also be served to the volunteers.
Volunteer will be trained and regularly
supervised and will have 24/7 access our
local partnering coordinators. Local staff
members of the project also regularly work
with volunteers as part of the program.
