Overview
of the Project
Orphanages
in Morocco provide both social care and
protection for vulnerable, exploited children
– particularly those abandoned or
orphaned. Most of programs focus on health
and education issues. These orphanages maintain
nurseries for abandoned infants, educational
programs for the children of poor working
mothers, in addition to activities covering
physical, moral, nutritional and personal
developmental issues to these unfortunate
children. Working in the orphanage project
can have a lasting impact on a child’s
life in addition to offering participants
a rewarding volunteer experience. This much-needed
assistance in areas such as education, games,
songs, and extra-curricular activities will
greatly appreciated by both the children
and the local project staff members.
Role of Volunteers
Most of the orphanage-based
activities focus on education, permitting
the participants to teach such subjects
as English, mathematics, computers, or other
subject to these children. Participants
will teach in either the orphanage or nearby
schools where the orphaned children attend.
In addition to the above-listed projects,
participants may be involved in the following:
- Assisting the children with their daily
schoolwork
- Organizing music lessons, fine arts
lessons, drama lessons
- Organizing games and extra-curricular
activities
- Help in administrative duties and other
programs of orphanages
- Participating in maintaining the house
(cleaning, repairs) along with the local
staff members
- Organizing leisure time activities.
Skills and Qualifications
No skills or qualifications
are required to work in the orphanage project.
However, we expect volunteers to be flexible,
responsible, patient, mature, and motivated.
And most importantly, participants should
have a passion for helping children. Knowledge
of French language is also helpful.
Room/Food/Supervision
Global Crossroad manages
food and accommodations for volunteers in
Morocco. Volunteers can stay either with
a host family or in a hostel. Three (3)
meals a day will also be served to the volunteers.
Volunteer will be trained and regularly
supervised and will have 24/7 access our
local partnering coordinators. Local staff
members of the project also regularly work
with volunteers as part of the program.
