Volunteer Morocco
Street Children Project

More than 10,000 children live or work on the streets of Morocco. Some of these children have no family homes. With only themselves to rely upon, these marginalized children have become incapable of developing the skills necessary for social and economic integration. A large portion of these children (especially victims of sexual assault as well as those addicted to various forms of drugs) have developed a sense of abandonment with respect to their bodies – often leading to bodily neglect and a fear of human contact with extreme cases resulting in self-mutilation. The Street Children Project in Morocco works in the fields of familial, educational and socio-professional reintegration for children in difficult circumstances. Its daily work is principally based in the disadvantaged area of Sidi Bernoussi and concentrates on the sites frequented by the children (bus station, harbors and town centers). This program also implements multidisciplinary programs, including socio-recreational workshops such as drama and painting.
