| The
Language and Cultural Immersion is a one-week
adventure in cross-cultural learning, language
study, and travel. The program includes
an orientation/introduction to Morocco’s
culture, religion, politics, climate, and
other issues pertinent to doing volunteer
work in the country. Volunteers in the program
will learn basic Arabic phases and common
expressions which can be used in their daily
lives. Participants will explore the vibrant
city of Rabat and Fes – covering the
most popular tourist destinations. In a
nutshell, this one-week program offers participants
intriguing glimpses of Morocco while providing
an in-depth understanding of the country
and its peoples prior to beginning their
respective volunteering project.
Day
1: Welcome at Global Crossroad's
Morocco office, orientation on the language
and culture program, and familiarization
with the week's events. Also, learn about
Morocco’s geography, climates, politics,
and safety issues.
Day
2: Arabic language class begins (3-4
hours). Learn words associated with greetings,
affirmative & negative, pronouns, short
expressions, and more about getting to know
each other. In volunteers’ free time,
explore the bustling markets and vibrant
commercial areas.
Day
3: Arabic language class continues
(3-4 hours). Learn more on verb, adjective,
adverb, family relation, food and drinks,
and how to express appreciation of something.
Explore the nearby cafes and mall in your
free time.
Day
4: Rabat City - The sightseeing of
the "Imperial Garden City" begins
with the Kasbah of Oudayas, Hassan Tower
and walls of the Mechouar which surround
the Royal Palace. Before arriving in Meknes,
a short visit will be made to Moulay Idriss
– a sacred Islamic town – passing
by the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Sightseeing
of Meknes "Moroccan Versailles:"
a town founded in the 17th century by the
King Moulay Ismael
Day
5: Arabic language class continues
(3-4 hours). Learn more Arabic words (name
of places, animals, birds, direction, body
parts, days, months, shopping, traveling).
In free time, explore the bustling markets
and vibrant commercial areas – simultaneously
putting your new language to use.
Day
6: Full day of sightseeing in Fes.
Fes is the oldest imperial city in Morocco.
Visit the Medieval Medina and religious
Islamic universities called Medersas, Karaouine
Mosque and University and the Nejjarin Fountain.
In the evening, visit the of the famous
Souks of Fes
Day
7: Arabic language revision and evaluation,
ending of program, preparation for departure
to respective project.
Note: This is a sample
itinerary and may change to meet the changes
in field condition. Local buses (not taxis)
are used as the primary modes of transportation.
Also: accommodations are either in a host
family or hostel (not hotel), and local
foods (3 times a day).
