| Our Mexico project starts with one week of language and cultural immersion program in Guadalajara , the second largest and most vibrant city of Mexico . The program covers intensive orientation, Spanish language courses, home stay, briefing on culture, religion and other important issues as well as visits to popular sites in Mexico , and movie session. During this program, volunteers can explore a rich colonial legacy nestled within quickly growing modernization and the warm and welcoming people of Mexico .
Language Immersion Itinerary (Tentative)
Day 0: Arrival in Guadalajara , receiving at the airport, and transfer to Global Crossroad center/host family/hostel or apartment.
Day 1: Orientation: First you will register, copy passport, call home, exchange money, etc. Orientation includes introduction of Mexican religion, culture, history, customs, geography, necessary health precautions, and various other topics such as diversity of Mexican life and other issue can also be incorporated based on the interest of the participants, if asked and informed beforehand.
Day 2 : A three hour tour in the morning into the centre of Guadalajara with a special look at the paintings of Orozco, one of the most famous muralists in Mexico history. Visit the artesanal arquitecture of Hospicio cabañas, the government palace and the historic sight seeing of the centre. Also volunteers will visit la barranca de huentitan, a wonderful canyon at the north end of the city before they return back to host family for lunch.
Spanish language lessons for two hours in the evening.
Day 3: A two hour culture lesson in the morning. Lunch with the host family and Spanish language lessons for two hours in the evening.
Day 4: Tour of Tonala, one of the most visited parts of Jalisco, famous for its handcrafts, clay and stone works of art. Lunch with the host family for lunch Spanish language lessons for two hours in the evening.
Day 5: Tour of Zapopan , one of the most popular indigenous villages near the city. The culture of Zapopan still r em ains in their people. Lunch with the host family for lunch Spanish language lessons for two hours in the evening.
Day 6: Meet at centre to for questions and answers on the language, religion, history and culture, and other interesting topic like the local ways of life in Mexico then and now, etc.
Day 7: Return to Global Crossroad center and transfer to the plac em ent or host family/apartment/hostel to start the volunteer project. |
