flavor of Kenya through our language
and cultural program. Global Crossroad
offers an exciting week language
and cultural program, where volunteers
will fully experience life in rural
Kenya. The program features a week
of training in the local language
(mainly Swahili) and immerses participants
in the unique culture of East Africa.
During the language
and culture program, volunteers will
visit the city of Nairobi and rural
settings in Kenya. Join our amazing
Kenya language program and gain insight
of Kenyan language and culture before
you start your project. The following
is a schedule for the program:
Day
1: Pick up from the Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport, in the capital
city of Nairobi, and transfer to hotel
or training venue depending on time
of arrival.
Day
2: Orientation about Kenyan
history, people, and way of life.
A 3 to 4 hour lecture
will be delivered during this orientation
class, which will be held at Global
Crossroad's local partner's office
or the home of one of the host families.
During the orientation lecture, topics
covered will include East African
culture, history, customs, politics,
geography, and necessary health precautions,
and various other topics, such as
the diversity of Kenyan life.
Also at this time,
all general information about a
week program will be given in a
schedule sheet. The evening is free
for exploring rural Kenya.
Day
3: Language classes begin (2-3
hours a day)

4-5: Language classes continue
(2-3 hours a day)
Day
6: Visit Paradise Lost, a magnificent
area 20 km from the Nairobi city center
in neighboring Kiambu district. While
there, tour through seemingly unending
caves, take a camel, horse or boat
ride and feel like you have landed
in paradise.
Day
7: Free day for volunteers
to explore Kenyan life. Volunteers
can visit the city of Nairobi, wander
through Nairobi National Park about
7 km from the city center. The host
family or program coordinator can
advise volunteers. Language classes close
