Experience the true flavor of Kenya through our language and cultural program. Global Crossroad offers an exciting week language and cultural program, where volunteers will fully experience life in rural Kenya. The program features a week of training in the local language (mainly Swahili) and immerses participants in the unique culture of East Africa.

During the language and culture program, volunteers will visit the city of Nairobi and rural settings in Kenya. Join our amazing Kenya language program and gain insight of Kenyan language and culture before you start your project. The following is a schedule for the program:

Day 1: Pick up from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in the capital city of Nairobi, and transfer to hotel or training venue depending on time of arrival.

Day 2: Orientation about Kenyan history, people, and way of life.

A 3 to 4 hour lecture will be delivered during this orientation class, which will be held at Global Crossroad's local partner's office or the home of one of the host families. During the orientation lecture, topics covered will include East African culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and various other topics, such as the diversity of Kenyan life.

Also at this time, all general information about a week program will be given in a schedule sheet. The evening is free for exploring rural Kenya.

Day 3: Language classes begin (2-3 hours a day)

Day 4-5: Language classes continue (2-3 hours a day)

Day 6: Visit Paradise Lost, a magnificent area 20 km from the Nairobi city center in neighboring Kiambu district. While there, tour through seemingly unending caves, take a camel, horse or boat ride and feel like you have landed in paradise.

Day 7: Free day for volunteers to explore Kenyan life. Volunteers can visit the city of Nairobi, wander through Nairobi National Park about 7 km from the city center. The host family or program coordinator can advise volunteers. Language classes close
