
Renowned as the Pink City of India , the royal capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727 AD. The ancient forts and palaces attract thousands of travelers from all over India and the world. While in Rajasthan, you can go for a camel ride and a jeep safari to explore the unending stretches of the Thar Desert. In Jaipur, our volunteer project is located 20 miles north of Jaipur in a small colorful village. Volunteers can explore beautiful villages, local bazaar, friendly people, and amazing landscaping of Rajasthan village.
Orphanage Project - Jaipur
Overview of the Orphanage Project
In Jaipur, Global Crossroad is working with a local NGO dedicated to rehabilitate the abandoned and orphaned children. Our local partner is presently running different programs to improve the overall stature of the orphan children. The ongoing programs include:
Location: Jaipur

Start Dates: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month
Language/Skill Requirements: Knowledge of English language
Arrival & Departure Point : Indira Gandhi International Airport , New Delhi
Accommodation/Meals : Host family and Indian food three times a day/residential accommodation
Working Hours: 20-30 hours per week |
Aarambh (The Beginning) : This program aims to protect children who run away or are abandoned by their families and seek refuge in certain places like deserted train cars, under bridges, around railway stations, etc. Aarambh serves as a Walk-In-Center at the Jaipur railway station.
Karuna (Compassion): A mobile health program aims to offer medical treatment to orphans and destitute children.
Aarohan (The Ascent!): This is a small shelter meant to serve as a "Halfway-Home" for street children. Here children can stay safely till either their families are contacted or they can be sent back home.
However, presently Global Crossroad's volunteers are working in children village called Udayan (Rising to Grow). This village is designed to house over 150 children. Presently, this village houses 50 orphans with a school, and a vocational training center. Soon, it will have health and medical center, and facilities for yoga, art, dramatics and music. Global Crossroad is also planning to construct some houses in the coming years.
Role of a Volunteer
Volunteers can engage themselves in various activities while volunteering in the orphanage project in Jaipur which are as follows:
Teach basic English to the children in the orphanage
Teaching English in the school where the kids go during the day
Help kids to dress up and escort them to school
Teach the children on the importance of sanitation and aid the children in brushing their teeth, taking shower, etc
Organize fun games like drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative educational and extra curricular activities
Help the children in their homework
Monitor the academic progress of each child
Help in the administrative works of the orphanage
Help in the kitchen, cook and distribute food
Other activities depending upon the time, situation, and need
Skills/Qualifications Requirements
There is no specific qualification required to volunteer in the orphanage project in Jaipur. But the volunteers should have love and compassion for the children that makes the kids feel warm and welcomed all the time.
Room/Food/Supervision
Global Crossroad manages room/food. Mostly, volunteers stay with kids in the orphanage where they share kitchen, and bathroom. Most of the times, volunteers get a separate room and Indian meals three times a day.
Jaipur project is 3 hours drive away from Delhi office. So frequent visit of Delhi staffs is not possible. However, our staffs stop by Jaipur project during the bonus trip that is offered to our volunteers to India . Global Crossroad maintains 3 local orphanages and has 5 staffs and a site coordinator which enables our volunteers to receive help and support 24/7. We suggest volunteers to bring mobile phones - this will help to stay connected with our Delhi office.
Location Descriptions
The orphanage project is located in Achoral, 30 km away from Jaipur city. The children village is located in a beautiful rural setting. So, you will experience a perfect rural life of India . In your free time, you can explore the near by villages, and bazaars, and make friends with the local people. Please take the help of local staffs when you go for sightseeing. International telephone and internet services are available at a distance of 3 miles from the project area.
Ms. Jayamala – Jaipur Coordinator
An active social worker, Ms. Jayamala has great love and compassion for the poor children. She has been involving in different children and women related projects for many years. She believes that the situation of children and women should be improved first to achieve any kinds of social reforms. She is thankful to all the volunteers who take the initiative to make this world a better place in their own little ways.
