Orphanage Project - Jaipur

Overview of the Orphanage Project

In Jaipur, Global Crossroad is working with a local NGO dedicated to rehabilitate the abandoned and orphaned children. Our local partner is presently running different programs to improve the overall stature of the orphan children. The ongoing programs include:

Location: Jaipur
Project: Orphanage
Start Dates: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month
Language/Skill Requirements: Knowledge of English language
Arrival & Departure Point : Indira Gandhi International Airport , New Delhi
Accommodation/Meals : Host family and Indian food three times a day/residential accommodation
Working Hours: 20-30 hours per week

Aarambh (The Beginning) : This program aims to protect children who run away or are abandoned by their families and seek refuge in certain places like deserted train cars, under bridges, around railway stations, etc. Aarambh serves as a Walk-In-Center at the Jaipur railway station.

Karuna (Compassion): A mobile health program aims to offer medical treatment to orphans and destitute children.

Aarohan (The Ascent!): This is a small shelter meant to serve as a "Halfway-Home" for street children. Here children can stay safely till either their families are contacted or they can be sent back home.

However, presently Global Crossroad's volunteers are working in children village called Udayan (Rising to Grow). This village is designed to house over 150 children. Presently, this village houses 50 orphans with a school, and a vocational training center. Soon, it will have health and medical center, and facilities for yoga, art, dramatics and music. Global Crossroad is also planning to construct some houses in the coming years.

Skills/Qualifications Requirements

There is no specific qualification required to volunteer in the orphanage project in Jaipur. But the volunteers should have love and compassion for the children that makes the kids feel warm and welcomed all the time.

Room/Food/Supervision

Global Crossroad manages room/food. Mostly, volunteers stay with kids in the orphanage where they share kitchen, and bathroom. Most of the times, volunteers get a separate room and Indian meals three times a day.

Jaipur project is 3 hours drive away from Delhi office. So frequent visit of Delhi staffs is not possible. However, our staffs stop by Jaipur project during the bonus trip that is offered to our volunteers to India . Global Crossroad maintains 3 local orphanages and has 5 staffs and a site coordinator which enables our volunteers to receive help and support 24/7. We suggest volunteers to bring mobile phones - this will help to stay connected with our Delhi office.

Location Descriptions

The orphanage project is located in Achoral, 30 km away from Jaipur city. The children village is located in a beautiful rural setting. So, you will experience a perfect rural life of India . In your free time, you can explore the near by villages, and bazaars, and make friends with the local people. Please take the help of local staffs when you go for sightseeing. International telephone and internet services are available at a distance of 3 miles from the project area.
