Overview of English Teaching Project
India is one of the developing countries in the world affected by poverty and lack of equal opportunities where the difference of rich and poor is vast and vivid. Here poor children cannot afford to go to private schools and they are deprived from learning English. Global Crossroad works to make positive impacts in the life of these poor Indian children by sending volunteers to teach English so that they have better opportunities in future.
The government and NGOS/INGOS in India are putting their efforts to provide education to the needy poor children, but still lot more needs to be done. Many public schools in Delhi lack quality English education. The resources are also very poor and understaffed. Volunteers are needed to help the school students to improve their English skills and help the children to build individual capabilities so that they could compete for better opportunities.
Role of a Volunteer
As an English teaching volunteer in India , you can bring a ray of hope and make a positive impact in the life of the children who cannot afford to go to expensive private schools to obtain English education. The general responsibilities include:
Teach conversational English through the book prescribed by the school
Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities
Helping kids to do homework, monitor academic progress,
Help in other activities or programs designed for kids (if any)
Assist in administrative works of schools
Skills/Qualifications Requirements
Generally no specific qualification is required for teaching project in Delhi . It is nice if you have teaching experience, but the volunteers in this sector must speak English, but not required to be native. This challenging and rewarding work needs passion and motivation.
