Trip Dates
July 9-22, 2006
October 1-14, 2006
December 1-14, 2006
In our Humanitarian trip to India , we construct 2 homes for orphan children in Jaipur. We will support the efforts of Vatsalya, a local NGO dedicated to protect and support the orphans. Since 1995, our local partner has been working to rehabilitate the orphaned and abandoned children by offering them safe home, informal education, and skilful training. To carry out these activities and protect the poor kids, Vatsalya has been developing a village (child village). Upon completion, this village will have a school, a health and medical centre, a variety of vocational training centres and space for outdoor activities that includes farming, sports, yoga, art, dramatics and music offering a healthy environment for the children to grow as good/capable citizens.
Vatsalya presently houses over 150 orphaned children and needs our urgent help and support to construct an additional home for the orphan children as the existing homes are getting crowded due to the increasing number of kids and the growing age of children. At present, many children live in a small house where there is no enough space to live, study, and play. Thus, the construction of additional units will provide enough space for the children's needs and will also facilitate a smooth running of the home. With this project, we will offer our love, passion, and help to the destitute children in India , who are deprived of homely environment, parental love and care.
On the Humanitarian Trip
As a volunteer in India humanitarian project, you will construct homes for the orphan children. Construction work will be physically demanding. Local villagers will also work together with volunteers. Volunteer works includes digging, removing mud, carrying bricks, cements, and water, mixing of cement, sand, and gravel, plastering, and other works related to construction.
We will complete the construction project (2 children homes) in 6 different phases. One children home will be completed in 3 phases. Therefore, the nature of work may vary as the construction work progresses. During free time, volunteers can play with the children and organize a variety of creative activities like painting, singing, dancing, teaching, etc.
In this project, volunteers will work and live in a rural environment surrounded by the villages in Rajasthan. The children village (Udayan) is located in the outskirts of Jaipur. It is a pleasant location surrounded by the hills and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to explore the magnificent villages and the rich culture of Rajasthan.
Accommodation, Food, Transportation
Vatsalya, a smoke free environment provides a clean and comfortable living for the volunteers. No use of tobacco or liquor is permitted in the premises. It is also a strict vegetarian institution. One and only constraint of living in this place is the erratic supply of electricity. Volunteers will commute from Delhi to Rajasthan by a bus or a train. In Rajasthan volunteers will stay in children village or a hostel sharing a room. Volunteers will be provided fresh and locally available meals 3 times a day. Indian food mostly comprises bread, curries, lentil soup (Dal), rice, and pickles. The shower facility is limited. The local transportation will be arranged as per the requirement.
