This one week program focuses on both the Spanish language and the culture of Guatemala . It offers opportunities for cross-cultural learning via Spanish classes with local teachers, home-stays with a Guatemalan family, village visits, cultural excursions, Salsa dancing and travel around local areas.
Day 1: Students are introduced to our staff of the Alameda Spanish Academy and to the family where they are going to live. In the afternoon they have a walking tour around Antigua and get general information about this colonial town and Guatemala in general.
Day 2-6: One to one Spanish classes; 4 hours classes in the morning, 2 hours classes or excursion in the afternoon.
During this week of studying the students will get to know the local culture of the surrounding rural areas. After their afternoon classes they will visit the following places:
Azotea Cultural Centre has a coffee plantation, with a coffee museum to explore the process from the coffee plant to the final product that is exported and learn about coffee history. Guatemala is famous for the high quality of its coffee and this is a special opportunity to see first-hand how coffee goes from the bean to your cup. At the same plantation there is a cultural museum with traditional clothing and music instruments.
A trip to the indigenous village of San Antonio Aguas Calientes , which is famous for its production of fabrics, handicrafts and woodcarvings.
A salsa class with one of our experienced teachers.
Students live with one of the families, in Antigua where they get three meals per day (except on Sundays), private room and hot water.
