Volunteer in Guatemala: Day Care Center for
Children of Canton Choquí

Overview of the Project

The Day Care Center project is great for volunteers who love interacting with young children and helping them learn. There are many activities at the day care that will constantly keep you busy. Global Crossroad has worked together with the local daycares to coordinate a program with activities and tasks, both volunteers and children will enjoy. This project will bring a smile to your face every day as you see how eager the children are to play with you and learn about your culture

Role of a Volunteer

Volunteers in the orphanage projects are involved in various activities such as playing with the children, organizing educational activities with the kids, helping with their homework, keeping them clean, along with cleaning the orphanage and helping in the kitchen. You can also come up with various chores and tasks for the children as well.

Skills/Qualifications Requirements

Volunteers do not require any special skills or qualifications because the project staff will provide all the necessary orientation and training to effectively carry out volunteer activities. However, volunteers should be passionate about caring for others and very understanding to the often adverse situations of these children

Room/Food/Supervision

Most of our volunteers live in a homestay with local host families. Our host families are carefully screened. They are educated, socially respected, and have hosted international volunteers in the past. A host family offers you a separate room (sometime you need to share with a fellow volunteer of same gender) and three local meals a day. The family and volunteers share use of the bathroom/shower and kitchen facilities. This also provides a local support network beyond the volunteers and program staff. Many of the volunteers consider their home stay a vital component of their Guatemalan experience.
