Volunteer Teaching English in China

Overview of the Project

There is a big demand for English teachers in China and the country is a race against time to modernize and develop. The main subject for volunteers teaching English in China is conversational English skills taught to primary and junior school students. Global Crossroad is currently involved with several Chinese public schools and most of them are located in rural areas and serve children of farmers and the working-class. Non-native English speakers are also invited to join this project.

Role of Volunteer

The growing demand for English education in China is tied to the country's economic growth. As China continues to be a global business competitor, the importance of English education is increasing steadily as well. Many public schools in China have established an “English corner”, an area of the classroom designed and set aside for teaching and learning English. These schools are very eager for international teachers to teach English in China, but unfortunately, only private, exclusive urban schools tend to attract native English teachers.
