| Our
Building Homes Project in Brazil allows
volunteers to construct houses for
the homeless, work on the maintenance
of public buildings and gardens, and
reinforce flood barriers. Approximately
3,000 Brazilians between the ages
of 18 to 67 work with the program—many
with very little, if any, formal schooling.
This project enables them to learn
a trade or new skill while receiving
a basic education in Portuguese, math,
science, music, and theater. Volunteers
are required to help organize, manage,
and supervise activities for the project,
which lacks the funding to employ
the necessary staff.
Activities
Volunteers will be involved in a wide
variety of activities, including helping
with home construction and the maintenance
of public facilities. Any construction
skills will be put to good use. Volunteers
will also help in the supervision
and monitoring of groups of workers.
Working Hours
Volunteers will work 5 to 6 hours
a day on week days, some time between
7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Resources
Resources for this project are adequate.
However, volunteers may wish to bring
supplies related to your project from
home.
