Under the volunteer in Bolivia program, volunteer can work in Children Home’s School that has about 600 children between the age group of 6 to 18. Most of the children come from children’s home and the other kids attending the school belong to very poor families. The project funds basically come from donations, and some parents also pay meager tuition fees for their children.
Volunteering in this school allows volunteers to choose to be class assistant, teach English, support children with their homework or be a sports trainer. Basically, volunteers help the children to learn English and also assist in their homework. Apart from this, the volunteers can also get involved in other specialized activities like music, baking and carpentry.
Volunteers in Children Home’s School work about 2-3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Volunteers can participate in special activities organized by the school during weekends. Magazines, textbooks, audio and video equipments, and a photocopier are available in the school. Volunteers can bring toys to share with the kids.
Knowledge of first aid would be useful.
Volunteers should try to learn as much Spanish as possible before leaving for Bolivia. This will come very handy.
