Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts

You’ll spend about 20 hours each week working under the guidance of experienced dentists and dental assistants learning and practicing a variety of dental techniques. Here are some of the key skills you’ll need for your future career that you’ll be working on as a dental volunteer:

Skills and Qualifications

WWe welcome all volunteers from around the world who have a passion for pursuing a career in the dental healthcare field. You will need to be enrolled in college studying dentistry or have graduated from a dental program and be able to commit to a minimum 8-week internship.

You’ll need to have at least beginner to intermediate Spanish language skills to become a dental volunteer in Argentina. If your Spanish could use some work, we suggest first enrolling in Global Crossroad’s Spanish language program for a fun and easy way to build your skills.


Every day volunteering in dental program in Argentina, you will find yourself on an exciting journey learning so many new things that will help you in your future career. The actual hours you work will vary based on your final placement, but you’re probably wondering what a typical day might look like for you.

Here’s a sample schedule to give you an idea:

  • First Day: On your first day as a dental volunteer in Argentina, our in-country coordinator will bring you to your project site and introduce you to the helpful dentist and dental assistants you’ll be working with.
    You’ll undergo an orientation that will get you started on the right foot. We’ll go over your internship duties, your schedule, safety protocol, and a quick briefing on the fascinating customs and culture of Argentina.
  • Weekdays: A typical day as a dental volunteer is as follows:
  • 7.00 to 7.30 AM​: Start your day with a simple Argentinian breakfast, which is typically toast or sweet crescent rolls called medialunas paired with coffee and juice.
  • 7.45 AM:  Head out for an exciting day of learning and practicing a range of dental techniques. You’ll be getting that on the job experience that will really put you ahead in your career.
  • 12.00 PM: Lunch time. You can prepare your own to-go lunch or try a new restaurant for a mid-day treat!
  • 3.00 PM: Once your volunteering concludes for the day, your afternoons and evenings are free to explore the unique and culturally rich city of Cordoba. Fellow volunteers make great new friends to travel around with!
  • 6.45 PM: Dinner is a great chance to get a true taste of Argentina and its world-renowned cuisine. If you’re staying with a host family, you’ll have the chance to gather around the table, practice your Spanish, and immerse yourself in the culture. Hostel volunteers can cook in the shared kitchen or head out on the town.

All volunteer programs in Argentina start every Monday of each month. However, if there is travel constrains, you can start any project on any day.

Global Crossroad's volunteer abroad in Argentina application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The volunteering in Argentina program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.


Accommodation and Meal

As a dental volunteer in Argentina, You’ll have the choice of staying with a welcoming host family, or in our volunteer hostel. If you stay with a host family, you’ll have a once-in-a-lifetime culturally immersive experience, and share breakfast and dinner with your host family. In our hostel you’ll have a shared room and kitchen space with fellow volunteers from around the world, and you’ll provide your own meals.

Arrival and departure

To participate in our dental volunteer opportunity in Argentina, you should fly into Pajas Blancas International Airport. Be sure to stay in touch with our local country coordinator and inform them about your flight arrival and departure time. This way airport pickup can be arranged hassle-free.

Global Crossroad offers airport pickup services to its volunteers. A local representative of Global Crossroad will be there waiting for you when your plane lands, and will transfer you safely to your accommodations.

Departure transportation is not included.

Visa

You’ll need to apply for a tourist visa before you fly to Argentina to volunteer in dental program. You can apply at the local Argentinian embassy in your home country, or just apply online at this website. Vaccination

The last thing you want when traveling to Argentina is to get sick. A quick trip to a knowledgeable doctor and getting up to date on your vaccines several weeks before you go abroad can help protect you.

Vaccinations for Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), polio, chickenpox, shingles, meningitis, typhoid, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), influenza, hepatitis B, yellow fever, pneumonia, and Hepatitis A is required for a volunteering in dental program in Argentina.
